Printable holiday packing list – what to take on vacation

Printable holiday packing listI started using a printable holiday packing list a few years ago to make it easier to remember everything I needed to pack and things I had to do before setting off on holiday. Using a holiday packing list ensures you won’t forget any of those essential items you need to take on your vacation.

I created my original packing list using a spreadsheet, which makes it easy to list the items with additional columns for quantity, a tick off the items as they have been packed column and a column for which bag to pack the item in or carry it on your person.

The printable holiday packing lists (download links below) are split into three, a holiday packing list for men, a holiday packing list for women (my wife kindly helped with this one) and a list of things to do before travelling.

The holiday packing lists for men and women are split into these subsections

  • Clothes
  • Footwear
  • Daytime items
  • Personal items
  • Medical
  • Travel gadgets
  • Other items
  • Documents and money

The list of things to do before travelling is split into these subsections

  • Book as far in advance as possible to get the best deals
  • 3 Months prior to travel
  • 1 Months prior to travel
  • 2 weeks prior to travel
  • 1 week prior to travel
  • The day before you travel
  • On the day of travel

There are some blank spaces at the end of the sub-sections on each list so that you can add in your own items to make your own personalized holiday packing lists.

You can download each list separately in PDF format which makes it easy to print the list. If you don’t have a PDF reader you can download one from Adobe.

Alternatively all three lists are available to download in one Microsoft Excel file:

  1. Neil, that’s a great idea that you have put together a holiday packing list for people to download. Would love to use this list to prepare for my vacation at the end of this year.

    • Hi Teresa,
Thanks for your comment and please feel free to download any of the lists and add or amend them to suit your own needs for your forthcoming vacation. Where are you planning to go, anywhere nice?

  2. Hi Neil!
These holiday packing lists are so helpful for my family.
We always forget packing something for our vacation.
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Great ideas and a very comprehensive checklist to take note Neil. Would be better to include a passport in the list. Its just a small thing but can’t do without.

This article is very informative and very useful for travelers. Keep it up Neil.

    Have a nice day!

    • Hi Cathy,
Thanks for your nice comment. Just to let you know, “Passport” is already included in both the packing lists for men and women in the “Documents and Money” section. Glad you found the lists useful.

You have a nice day too!

  4. Wow, an excellent and thorough checklist here – thanks for sharing! I’m one of those people that tends to leave things until the last minute…then ends up buying everything I’ve forgotten when I get to my destination.
Thanks for sharing, great list 🙂

    • Hi Chris,
I’m glad you like the lists and please feel free to use as required. I was just the same, forgetting to pack things until I created one of these lists. Now I don’t ever go on a trip without using a packing list to make sure I don’t forget everything I need.

  5. I know my husband could do better by having lists. He can’t rely on me all the time! These are great ideas, thank you.

    • Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your comment and glad you liked the lists. Feel free to download and print off the lists. You can give the men’s list to your husband so he can add any items missing, that way he will have his own list which makes packing so much simpler.

  6. Great idea, Neil. Excellent lists, too. I checked the men’s list carefully and you covered everything I could think of that I try to take with me. The quantity column is especially helpful.

I usually end up making a hand-written list of items to take with me but inevitably I don’t have everything written down, especially things like the mobile phone charger. It’s really bad when your phone runs out of juice at the end of the first day of vacation!

The things to do before travelling list is very helpful. I haven’t traveled extensively outside of the United States but, when I have, I’ve struggled to think through all that needed to be done. Thanks for taking time to share these lists.

    • Hi Allyn,

Glad you liked the lists and now rather than hand writing a whole list you can just print off one of these and hand write only the extra items you need that are not included already.

I also find a list of things to do before travelling very helpful. It’s those little things that can get forgotten if they are not written on a checklist and if you are like me, I’ll remember I haven’t done that thing half way through the holiday when it’s a bit late 🙂
