Neil

I grew up in the UK and still live there today. Throughout my life I have travelled extensively in Europe, Asia, Australasia and US on holidays, mini breaks, business travel and longer travelling trips, so founded http://TopTipsForHolidays.com to help people by providing top tips for holidays and travel.

  1. Hey, your post comes at the perfect time for me, as I will go in a holiday abroad this summer and I was actually trying to find out more about travel insurance. I didn’t know too much about it, but I do now 😀
I think I’ll take a look at World Nomads, as it’s available for travelers from all around the world and I quite like its advantages.
Which of these do you use most, like when you go in summer holidays?

  2. As an avid traveller, I found these tips very helpful. I’ve never really thought about travel insurance, and seems I could have saved up if I did on my past travels.

All these travel insurance companies you presented sounds reliable but I’d like to know the best, especially for residences in Asia.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,
    Anh

    • Hi Anh,

Most of the companies listed are for people living in the UK or US. However World Nomads covers travel insurance for people from over 150 countries, so you should be able to purchase cover from them. World Nomads are based in Australia but you can get a general quote straight from the form on this page.

      Thanks

      Neil

  3. Hi Neil,

You listed a good amount of travel insurance companies for comparison here. I’m sure any one of them listed here will be a fair choice. But in your opinion what are the top 3 things anyone should look for when narrowing down which insurance to purchase? Such as specific benefits or features.

    • Hi Teri,

I would say that the 3 main things to look for when choosing a travel insurance company are: do their policies offer the exact cover that you want for the trip you are going on, price in comparison to other companies and what kind of reviews they get from other previous customers on the likes of trustpilot.com or defaqto.com.

      Thanks

      Neil

  4. Hi Neil,

Over the years I’ve been so used to buying my travel insurance through the post office just before heading off. I notice that you don’t mention this as an option. What are your thoughts on this, I always thought this was good value for money? Any chance you could put this in for comparison? Really informative post, thanks.

    • Buying travel insurance at the Post Office is definitely an option. However, I didn’t include it because I purposely tied this article with the other article I wrote – How to buy travel insurance online. These days with on-line reviews, such as this one and price comparison sites, the internet makes it much easier for people to search out the travel insurance best deal.

      Thanks

      Neil

  5. Great post and I never really thought much about how much I was paying for my travel insurances. Reading through your posts makes me realize I’m most likely overpaying for some of my coverage.

Even though I do have medical coverage around the world, my wife and I usually add the travel insurance from where we do bookings with RCI.

It would probably be a good idea to check out the places you suggest to see the differences.

    • Hi Travis,

Yes it is definitely worth shopping around. This is particularly the case if you have any pre-existing medical conditions as prices can very a lot.

      Thanks for your comment

      Neil

  6. Great article!!
    Very informative! I can definitely see how this can be helpful to extensive travelers. I have never saw such a detailed article on insurance before. Traveling to the U.K. is one of my top bucket list priorities;
Thanks for this great information! I will definitely pass this along to my friends and family.
    Great job!
    Jenny

    • Hi Jen,

Thanks for your comment, glad you found the article useful. I hope you do manage to get to the UK as there are lots of great things to see and do here.

      Thanks

      Neil

  7. Hi, Neil!
Great site and awesome article on how to find and get insurance.
I have never taken out travel insurance and man have I done a lot of travelling in my day.
Is it really affordable and do these companies really honor their claims?
Seems a bit scary when dealing with companies that do not originate in my country, but that is just me being insecure, lol.
I am going to check out some quotes, thanks!

    Shawn>>

    • Hi Shawn,

When you say the companies do not originate in your country, the first 4 companies listed are UK companies providing insurance for people in the UK. Then all the other companies listed in the “US and Global travel insurance companies” section are for travellers from the US and elsewhere. If you are based in the US you could try InsureAndGoUSA or if not you could try World Nomads who insure people from 150 different countries. Quotes should be reasonably priced and in line with other companies in the industry.

      Thanks

      Neil

  8. This is a great site for young adults to check out as they adventure into the world of travel! I love the photos and how they change. also love the SM icons on the left and the e-mail on the the right.. maybe you could include a link to traveling with your pets.. or a future blog..
    Great site!

    • Hi Shelley, Yes sure, I certainly will be including more on travelling with pets. I currently have a small section on travelling with pets on board ferries on this page, but I will be including some proper information about taking pets on various modes of transport soon.

      Thanks

      Neil

  9. Hi Neil your page looks good. I like how you took the time and elaborated on each company in terms of what they have to offer in travel insurance. This makes things a lot easier for the reader to compare and contrast and make a decision because it is all in one place. Images looks good too. You are definitely a go to person when it comes to this. Keep it up.

  10. Hello Neil!!

As my partner and I are planning a getaway trip, this is most definitely the right post for me to read!!

Thanks for the great share my friend!

    Cheers!

    • Hi Brooke,
You are welcome! Glad you liked the information and found it helpful. You should also read the page – How to buy travel insurance online – which contains information on the different types of policies available, what is covered or not covered and things you need to check with the insurance company.
      Thanks
      Neil

  11. Thanks for sharing this information. Looks like there are plenty of good places that offer travel insurance.

    • Hi Teresa,
Thanks for your comment and yes there are lots of companies where you can purchase travel insurance. One reviewed in this article is World Nomads (based in Australia) which offer travel insurance to people from over 150 countries.
      Thanks
